Welcome
Welcome to my website, a place that I hope will be useful to you as an elementary classroom teacher. This website was created as a culminating project for my Rank I degree in Literacy Education. The project involved researching literature to learn about documented ways that technology has already been used to enhance literacy instruction. There are multiple ways to integrate technology in the elementary reading classroom, but teachers often don't know how to integrate or aren't sure how to fit it into their busy daily schedules.
Here, you will find ways to integrate technology with literacy instruction in the elementary classroom setting. I have organized the information into four different areas of literacy: vocabulary, fluency, writing, and reading comprehension. For each area, there are 2-3 technology tools listed, as well as a lesson plan suggestion for each one to get you started. The lesson plans were intentionally designed to be somewhat broad so that they can easily be modified to meet your specific grade level or individual classroom needs. You will notice that there is also a page devoted to phonics and phonological awareness. However, there was no literature found that documented ways to integrate technology with these areas, so that issue is discussed on the webpage.
There a few different ways that you can use this website to learn more about technology integration and literacy instruction. One way is to simply browse the site by exploring what information lies within each page (Vocabulary, Fluency, Writing, etc.) and gain teaching ideas. Another way is to visit this page to look through the list of Common Core standards related to the suggested lesson plans in each area of literacy. You may find a standard that you have been planning instruction for; if so, you can then visit the related page with technology and lesson plan ideas that correlate with the standards. Maybe there is a certain area of literacy that you have been needing technology ideas for. In that case, you can quickly select your chosen area from the list of pages at the top of the website and be taken to information related to that specific area of literacy.
